Montoya, Sandra
Secretary
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Sandra Montoya, and my family's roots in Magdalena span several generations. Both my husband and I are graduates of Magdalena High School, and we raised our three children in this wonderful community.
My 29-year career in education began as a school board secretary and progressed to serving as an elementary teacher, and K–12 school counselor. Twenty-six of those years were spent serving the students, and families of the Magdalena Municipal School District. I completed my career as an assistant principal in Las Cruces before retiring in 2019. During retirement, we enjoyed spending time with our four grandchildren and caring for them while their parents worked. In May, Tommy, I and our oldest daughter Shawna returned to Magdalena full-time.
In November, I was honored to be elected to serve as your school board member. Representing the community that has given so much to my family is a privilege I value deeply. Magdalena Schools have always been an important part of my life, and I believe our students are the future of our community.
I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members, district leadership, educators, parents, and community members to support quality education and make decisions that put students first. Together, we can build on our strengths, meet the challenges ahead, and provide every child with the opportunities they deserve.
